Grundfos Australasia issues a safety notice regarding the state of chemical dosing installations in Australia and New Zealand.
The notice became necessary after several site visits where pipework arrangement was of an inadequate design leaving the potential for chemical leakage. Leaking chemicals on the dosing pump head or pipework could be a sign of accelerated head pressure. Over time the chemicals could be forced behind the pump diaphragm, penetrating the assembly between the dosing head and the pump housing with the potential for damage to the gearbox.
Any leakage and subsequent damage to the pump must be avoided at all costs as there is risk of compromising effective dosing operation or even explosion.
Regular inspection and maintenance in accordance with the Installation and Operating Instructions is essential, especially checking that no chemicals have penetrated behind the pump diaphragm.
